These two new releases in the adult industry couldn’t be much more different. On the left is Without Restraint from Playgirl, a film being marketed in the “For Ladies” category and featuring performers who appear to have stepped straight out of the pages of a romance novel. At right (but really out of left field, in a good way) is Eon McKai’s Content from Vivid Alt, a decidedly more hardcore and yet somewhat cerebral alt porn flick that features anal, among other things. I’m wondering if a glamour movie that’s supposed to be for women will really appeal to women who actually watch porn more than a down-and-dirty but very artistically rendered hardcore flick. What you think looks hotter will depend greatly on what kind of person you are, I know… for me, despite the raunchier action, I’m going to have to go with Content for its sheer audacity of purpose and a much more alternative-friendly cast, but I wouldn’t kick Without Restraint out of bed either. What would you rather watch?

I’m not sure who Anne Murray is — she’s not the singer from Canada, that’s for sure! The question posed by the accompanying article, written by Nancy Jo Sales, is this: Why does every woman in America want to sleep with the American Idol?

Bree Olson, exclusive to Adam & Eve received the award for Female Perfomer: Fan’s Choice. Finally, new company SkinworXXX, Sun Goddess: Malibu, which is distributed by Adam & Eve and stars Bree Olson, received the Best All-Girl Sex Release: Fan’s Choice award.
The 8th Day stars Kayden Kross, Bree Olson, and Amber Rayne, and has already received a lot of critical praise and award buzz. The movie is Adam & Eve Pictures’ biggest production to date and is already topping sales charts in the adult industry!

Jezebel is one of my favourite blogs about sexuality that’s written from a female perspective. Today I found an article about British porn regulations that prohibit depictions of squirting on film. Whether you believe all of those female performers can really squirt or not, the point of the article is that these regulations reflect a lack of understanding of (or even an unwillingness to understand) female sexuality. This is what stood out for me the most in the article:
The reason we still know so little about female ejaculation, and the reason the BBFCC bans depictions of it, may be one and the same. As long as real female sexuality remains shrouded in mystery, unknowable, Freud’s “dark continent,” then pornography can continue to depict a male-friendly version in which women love nothing more than multiple penetration and come easily with no clitoral stimulation. Even outside porn, the idea that women’s sexuality will never really be understood may seem both safe and attractive to male consumers — safe because it releases men from the responsibility of actually understanding what women want, and attractive because it puts real, messy female desire behind a gossamer curtain of confusion. It’s worth noting that squirting is far from absent from non-British porn, but the real issue here isn’t whether or not female ejaculation is depicted on film. The issue is whether those in charge of producing, distributing, and regulating film care about how female pleasure actually works, or if they have a vested interest in keeping audiences ignorant on this topic. In the case of the BBFCC, the answer still seems to be the latter.
