Rounding out the cast are some X Play regulars: Dino Bravo as Mr. Roper, and Nina Hartley as Mrs. Roper.
After Jack loses his job, Mr. Roper gives the roommates five days to come up with the rent or get evicted. While Janet’s at work and Jack’s out job-hunting, Chrissy relieves stress by reaching for her pink vibrator. The Ropers can hear her in their apartment below, and Mr. Roper is clueless as to what’s going on but you can see by the look on Mrs. Roper’s face that she knows what’s up. Meanwhile, back at the Regal Beagle, Jack and Janet are fretting over hearing this news about Chrissy from Jim. Back at the apartment, new maintenance man Mr. Furley (Scott Lyons) is about to fix the toilet when a hooker (Jenny Hendrix) that Larry ordered for Jack as a joke shows up to do her job. Hilarity ensues, but in sitcom fashion, everything is wrapped up and resolved by the end.
From the cheeky theme song (sung by Serge Mancandy and Lotta Zeros) to the farcical situations and dialogue, laugh track, and period-appropriate details like a Dynamite 8-track player, Not Three’s Company XXX is a fitting tribute. It manages to be both funny and erotic, with three sexy leads, and it’s that rare adult film with a plot that could stand on its own. The filmmakers have truly paid homage to the original sitcom. Features in the adult industry are not dead even in the gonzo age, as long as there are companies willing to make tongue-in-cheek, highly entertaining movies like this. The only problem is that we’re still waiting for the three roommates to get it on with each other… does anyone else smell a sequel?

TS:SS represents one of a handful of films to be released on the Sweet Sinner imprint, which focuses exclusively on boy/girl action. By all indications it is beholden to the same ideals set forth at Sweetheart Video, as a way to capture intimate scenarios at their most real and most raw. To create those authentic seductions, strong storylines are a prominent feature of Noelle’s work. Because it is porn, however, it is important to establish the players and the central conflict quickly, so as not to bore viewers who want to see more backdoor-y and less back story. Thankfully, Nica does just that.
TS:SS revolves around a caring father, his loving daughter (Tera Dice) and her new stepmother (Michelle Lay). From the get go, Tera and Michelle do not get along and there is a growing skepticism on the part of Tera that Michelle is up to no good. A heated exchange between Michelle and Tera notwithstanding, Michelle actually does a lot of good at the start, performing her new wifely duties as one would expect. You don’t often see long, passionate kisses or embraces in adult films, mainly because they are considered to be too intimate. Here, they drive the action to the hilt. You won’t find any anal action or weird insertions of any kind, but that’s because those tend to be male-dominated fantasies of women. Nica looks at intimacy from a female perspective. Because of that, there is, sadly, a good chance these films will probably get stigmatized as the Zima of adult flicks. That is, they appeal to everyone at first, but over time they are looked upon as too girly for most men. That’s too bad, because Nica has achieved that legitimacy she set out to create. On the positive side, it’s great to see a director focusing more on women’s sexual cravings, as there is a growing contingent of women who watch porn. This should test very well with those who enjoy viewing it.
